Max Patch Elopement Photographer

So you have landed on Asheville North Carolina as your elopement destination and you are thinking about hiring a Max Patch elopement photographer.  You have good taste, so let’s get you set up with someone that can capture the magic of Max Patch mountain with you as the focal point in this epic setting.  Max Patch it is straight up one of the dopest spots within an hour radius of Asheville.  In Western North Carolina, there is hardly a better spot for your elopement photography than Max Patch.

Why Do You Want a Max Patch Elopement Photographer?

So why would you choose someone as a Max Patch elopement photographer over other iconic Asheville digs like Black Balsam, Craggy Gardens, or Looking Glass Falls?  Max Patch is a unique giant bald on the top of a mountain that has 360° views of waves and waves of endless mountains.  Essentially, Max Patch is a giant meadow at the top of a mountain.  It is one of the most quiet and peaceful places in the Asheville area.  Bring your frisbee and some good craft beer to be able to relax and enjoy yourself.  If there are children coming to the elopement, buy them some little streamers, or kites.  The wind up at Max Patch can be just right for kite flying and makes for awesome photographs.

Allegory and Elm Photography has you covered as Andrew May is an incredible Max Patch elopement photographer.  Having shot 100’s of elopements, Max Patch is one of my absolute favorite elopement spots.

Sunsets

I have seen some of the most beautiful sunsets at Max Patch.  Regardless of what time of year it is or where are you are on the mountaintop, you will have an amazing view of the sunset.   The temperature can drop quite a few degrees once the sun goes down.  Make sure the bride has some sort of cover or jacket to keep warm. Cuddling up and getting heat from your lover is also the move.

Adventure Is Out There

For those who are more adventurous, take a backpack and your camping gear up to the top. Set up your tent, and we can get some cute images of you all by the fire if you so choose. Your elopement can be as simple or as elegant as you wish.  You saved a shit ton of money by not doing a traditional wedding.  Let’s put some of that money towards making your elopement as swanky as possible.  If you would like some musicians, there are so many Asheville musicians who love hiking up to play a romantic tune for your elopement.

Add Some Music of Vintage Rentals

It can be as simple as a solo violin or guitar and as complicated as a quintet.  That is five musicians for those who aren’t hip to it.  You can also rent some amazing furniture pieces to accentuate the elopement space and to make it look more extravagant.  From arbors, to elegant couches, candles, tables, tables and beyond, check out Vintage Indigo Rentals.  Jess and her crew can totally stylize everything for you and you don’t have to necessarily make any decisions, unless you have a specific vision.

Short Hike

The hike to the top is super short. It only takes about 20 to 25 minutes depending upon the size of the group.  It can, however get quite muddy if there has been rain or snow recently.  So I suggest bringing hiking boots for brides. Ladies, you can change into your pretty shoes up top so they don’t get filthy.  If the trail is fine, leave the boots in the car.

When To Have Your Max Patch Elopement

Weekdays are ideal as Max Patch can get super crowded on the weekends, particularly in the Fall.  Fall time is best at Max Patch for your elopement ceremony.  However, any time from May through November is beautiful up there.

Getting Lost

The GPS signal is weak or nonexistent up towards Max Patch, and it can be difficult to actually find.  Many people have gotten lost on the multiple dirt roads leading up to Max Patch.  The last thing you want is to be waiting an hour for uncle Frank to show up.  It will majorly cut into your photography time.  So what is the solution? Download the Google maps app onto your phone and you can actually download the map of the Max Patch area to have available offline.  This way, when you get up there, the map will already be on your phone.

Alternatively, you can meet up with your entire party ahead of time and do you a drivetrain of cars following each other.  You can meet at Exit 7 (Harmon Den) off of I-40 and just follow me up.  It can work out really well as sometimes there are some beautiful spots to stop at on the way up.  This provides more variety including a beautiful flowing creek and some amazing color if it is autumn.  Often like to do first looks in some of these lower locations. With that being said the bride and groom should ride in separate vehicles.
