Quality Hair and Makeup Matters

May 11, 2014

Up until recently, I didn’t understand the necessity of professional hair and makeup.  Having short hair and being a male my whole life, understanding the importance of quality hair and makeup wasn’t all that relevant to me.  Just throw some paste in there and I am good to go. Why do women spend 1-2 hours getting their hair and makeup done for their wedding day? Because in that time you can take someone who is already beautiful, and makes them look stunning.  Kayleen is the perfect example of this, she is a very pretty woman, but when you combine professional hair, makeup, and photography, you get something that is truly magic and looks incredible.  In the same way I consider myself and my photography art, I also consider what these women were able to do with hair and makeup to be art as well.  Knowledge is also a huge part of the equation.  Different people have specialized knowledge that helps them to be better at what they do.  I wouldn’t know the first thing about applying makeup and I can barely get my daughter’s hair into pigtails.  But the ladies over at Changes Hair Salon know exactly what to do with any woman’s hair to make it look amazing.  They have a specialized knowledge about hair.  It sounds somewhat silly when it is put that way, but it doesn’t make it any less true.  Some people think of photographers as button pushers, but that is simply not the case.  If you look at what makes an amazing photo that just sings, and a snapshot someone took with their iPhone you can tell a huge difference.  Now I am not saying that you cannot get a great picture on your iPhone (that’s not the point).  The point is that in the same way a painter is an artist, a musician is an artist, a photographer is an artist, a hair stylist who has a gift can also be an artist.  This is the reason some people are called makeup artists, they are creating art on people’s faces.  Carly Pollock created art with what she did with Kayleen’s makeup, the hair styling was another stroke of the brush, and the photography, capturing all the beauty, was the final piece to bring everything together and to make something memorable.  Collaboration is key, and I could have taken some nice photos without the quality hair and makeup done, but I feel that I created some amazing photos with the help of some very talented hair and makeup artists.  Enjoy the photos…

Make sure you go all the way to the end to see the awesome candlelit photos of the gorgeous Kayleen.
