ASHEVILLE ADVENTURE WEDDING

If you are having your wedding in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, but feel like you may not have enough time on your wedding day to really get the portraits you want, you should book your Asheville wedding photographer for an adventure session.  So what is an adventure session?  Basically, I love photographing couples up on a mountainside, by a waterfall, or somewhere out in nature.  When you have a larger scale wedding sometimes there is just not adequate time during the day to get all the intimate, artistic, creative shots of the couple that you may want.  So, what is the move?  I offer adventure sessions for couples as an add on, or as part of your wedding package.  It can take a lot of stress out of the day of, because we don’t have to worry about not having enough time for the creative shots. 

RUNNING OUT OF TIME

Wedding timelines don’t always go according to plan.   When timing runs late photography always is the first casualty.  Photography is not cheap, so one of the best ways I can assure that we get amazing imagery is to schedule an adventure session.  What if it rains on your wedding day?  It poured on Casey and Ed’s wedding day, and we still got really cool rainy images with the airstream in it, but this is not what any bride envisions when they are thinking about their wedding day.  No one dreams of it pouring rain and being chilly, wet, and dreary on their wedding day.  The good news is we can still get badass shots if rains, but the even better news is we can schedule another time to adventure up in the Blue Ridge Mountains and get some killer photos, amazing sunsets, flowing waterfalls, and epic mountains.  Are you drooling yet?  

SPECIALIZING IS KEY

I don’t consider myself to be egomaniacal, but I do know some of my strengths and weaknesses.  One of my strengths is photographing people out in the woods, in the wild, in nature’s church.  Perhaps, this is what drew you to my work.  If that is the case, let me do what I excel at. You wouldn’t have a bartender who specializes in making cocktails try to make you a creme brûlée latte with a design made into the beverage.  No, you would have a barista who specializes in coffee create one of those cool looking fern things in that hot bevy.  You wouldn’t have a surgeon who specializes in brain surgery working on your teeth.  You would go to the dentist.  Both are doctors, but they specialize in totally different areas.  In the same way, I am saying don’t hire me to just grab shots at the church.  They will look good, but if you want something amazing, let me do what I do best.  Let me take you on an adventure in the wild.

SHARING THIS LAND

Growing up in the mountains of Western North Carolina, I know them well.  I want to share this amazing land with you.  I want you to experience the feeling of untamed freedom, and for you to have some genuine emotional memories attached to your commitment to each other, to the celebration, and to the spirit your love for one another.  Some folks don’t realize they have the option to have this type of stress free, beautiful, wild experience.  Having an Asheville wedding photographer who knows what they are doing, and who is not simply following the latest trend, is super important.      

IT’S NOT FOR EVERYONE

“So I have to dress up in my wedding attire and have hair and makeup done again?” If this is your outlook on it, this may not be for you.  But, if you are someone who loves being outside, loves spending time with your partner, loves experiences over having more stuff, then this is totally for you.  One of my best experiences this year was watching a sunset with total strangers in Yosemite and photographing it.  Sometimes we don’t even realize the adventure that our hearts are calling us to, that our souls yearn for, until we are actually in the beauty of creation and all that it holds.  It is magical people.  When hiring an Asheville wedding photographer, really consider if you connect with the personality and not just the photography.  

NOT LOCAL?  NO WORRIES!!

You might be thinking, we are from out of town and that just won’t work for us. No worries folks.  Your adventure session is good up to a year after your wedding date.  So if you want to do an anniversary session, go for it.  If you wanted a fall wedding, but compromised for spring, you can schedule your adventure session for the fall.  I am down for what you want to do.

LESSONS LEARNED

All the rainy images below were captured the day of  Casey and Ed’s actual wedding.  The shots turned out awesome and intimate, but the rain did limit us in certain ways.  The amount of time we had to shoot, the posing we could do, and the flexibility in location were somewhat compromised.  By scheduling the adventure session, we were given beautiful weather as you can see just after the airstream photos.
